Reason 14 is finally here — and this update is long overdue.
After letting the initial announcement settle, I wanted to take a real look at what’s actually being added—and what it means for workflow.
Watch the full breakdown below:
A Long-Overdue Workflow Upgrade in Reason 14
The biggest change in Reason 14 is the evolution of the sequencer—now called the Track Panel.
This is the update that stands out immediately.
Instead of constantly bouncing between:
Rack
Mixer
Sequencer
You can now control everything directly from one view.
When you click on a track, you get:
Plugins
Inserts
Sends
Mixer controls
All in one place.
This brings Reason much closer to workflows in DAWs like Pro Tools and Ableton Live, where staying in a single window is standard.
This is the most important change in Reason 14.
Why This Matters
For years, one of the biggest friction points in Reason was speed.
Even though the rack is powerful, it slows things down when you’re:
Producing
Arranging
Making quick decisions
Now, being able to stay inside the Track Panel means:
Faster workflow
Less window switching
More focus on the music
This is the difference between working fast and fighting the software.
Track Folders (Small Feature, Big Impact)
Track folders are another addition that shouldn’t be overlooked.
You can now:
Group tracks together
Clean up your session
Stay organized without shrinking or hiding tracks
This is something that’s become standard in modern DAWs, and it’s a welcome addition here.
Quality-of-Life Improvements
There are a few smaller updates that actually make a big difference day-to-day:
MIDI Editing Improvements
Easier velocity control
More intuitive note editing
This has been a pain point for a long time, so this is a very needed fix.
Clip Editing Enhancements
Duplicate clips can now stay linked
Edit one → updates all copies
Simple, but powerful for arrangement work.
Dark Mode Improvements
Mixer finally matches dark mode
Better visual consistency across the UI
This should have happened earlier, but it’s good to see it now.
Improved Tempo Detection
Better handling when importing audio
Potentially smoother sampling workflow
New Device: RV9 Reverb Station
Reason 14 introduces the RV9 Reverb, replacing the older RV7000.
This is a big upgrade:
More modern design
Built-in EQ
Better performance
Native plugins are always more efficient, and with something like reverb (which is CPU-heavy), that matters.
Even if you use third-party plugins, this is likely something you’ll at least test in your workflow.
This is the first time in a while I’d consider using a stock reverb over third-party options.
What I Still Want to See
A few things are still missing:
Browser Improvements
The browser changes in Reason 13 weren’t ideal.
A cleaner system for:
Favorites
Plugin organization
Modern EQ and Compressor
Reason still lacks:
A fully modern EQ (dynamic, mid/side, etc.)
A versatile, all-in-one compressor
If those get added in the future, it would push Reason into another level entirely.
Final Thoughts
Overall, Reason 14 looks like one of the most important updates in years.
The Track Panel alone is a game changer
Workflow is finally catching up to other DAWs
The small improvements add up in a big way
If Reason keeps moving in this direction, it’s going to be very hard to beat.
